Hotel review: Andaz London Liverpool Street

I recently turned a new page over agewise. I’m going to let you guess which one, but let’s just say it was a big one. I didn’t want to stare at the walls at home, so I pressured my husband into going to London for my birthday. Not that it was all that difficult to persuade him. I really wanted a fancy hotel this time, centrally located, but preferably in a neighborhood we hadn’t stayed at before. Booking.com had a superb deal in the five star Andaz by Hyatt hotel, located in the Spitalfields area, and about 100m from the Liverpool Street tube and railway station. Perfect!

Let’s give you an overview of how much I liked the hotel:

  • Location: couldn’t be more perfect. Very close to the tube. There’s four lines passing by Liverpool Street Station, so you’re close to everything. Furthermore, Spitalfields market is literally just around the corner, as well as Brick Lane. You’ve got tons of restaurants close by as well as street food joints. And an extra bonus for me: the iconic Gherkin building is about three streets from the hotel, so I was finally able to get up close and personal with my favorite London building.
  • Staff: again, couldn’t be more perfect … Check-in was incredibly friendly, swift and professionally done. We were offered complimentary water or coffee during check-in, something I’m not used to in London based hotels. When the guy at check-in heard it was my birthday weekend, he immediately offered us complimentary breakfast during our stay. Talk about customer service!!
  • The room: when entering the room, it was filled with balloons and sparkly things to wish me a happy birthday. Instant smile on my face! The room itself is very cosy, the beds are comfortable and the bathroom was clean, big enough and had a bit of a retro vibe to it. By the way, water, tea, coffee and soda are complimentary in the room!Andaz Liverpool Street London birthday room
  • Breakfast: you have to go to the 1901 restaurant next door (no worries, there’s a connection from the inside of the hotel). First of, the location is amazing. High ceilings with a beautiful framed window in the ceiling. There’s a plentiful buffet present, but if you want to, the chef can make you a list of fresh dishes – without extra charge! And trust me, have the pancakes. They’re heavenly!breakfast at the Andaz Liverpool Street London hotel

This hotel just made me feel at home. It has that “je ne sais quoi” as the French say. Plus, when we got back in the room from our first shopping spree, I had another surprise waiting for me in the room … Thank you Andaz for making my birthday weekend truly exceptional!
