It’s that time of the year again …

Next week, I’m off to my second home, Florida. You would think I’ve seen the place more than enough, right? Well, I can’t get enough and luckily for me, my husband loves the place too!

We’re going to the Gulf Coast this time, I’m looking forward to bringing lots of new tips home for you as well as some lovely pictures.

Our trip: Orlando -> Cape Canaveral -> Clearwater -> Honeymoon Island -> Longboat Key -> Siesta Key -> Cape Coral -> Sanibel Island -> Marco Island -> Everglades -> Key Largo -> Islamorada -> Miami -> home

Got any tips for me along the way? Do share them!!

Restaurant review: Quality Meats, Miami Beach, Florida

quality meats miami beach florida

Always keep the best for last, that’s what they tell you. Well, at Quality Meats in Miami Beach, they give you the best they’ve got the moment you walk in. My mom and I wanted to go for a good steak the last night we were in Miami. My trusted Yelp directed us to this restaurant that had opened not too long ago. The reviews were all raving about the place. I should warn you though, this restaurant doesn’t come cheap. But it’s oh so worth it …

Restaurant review: Bistro 245 – Key West, Florida

After a couple of recipes and a much loved review of L.E.S.S. (thanks for the love you guys!) it’s back to my preferred turf, Florida! During my trip last March I finally made it till the end of the A1A; all the way to Key West! People say that driving along the Keys is a once in a lifetime experience. I don’t really know about that. It’s quite difficult to overtake a slow car and it’s not all that exotic as you might think. Nor is the entire road full of epic views like you get on the 7 Mile Bridge. That one is a thing of beauty! Plus, it gets you to Bahia Honda Beach (see previous post: https://thetastytraveller.be/2014/09/20/florida-my-favorite-beaches/ ) and … to Key West!

I loved Key West! I loved it so much I was disappointed I didn’t book an overnight stay there. I don’t know if you have this too, but some things/places get a theme song whenever I think of it. Well, Key west immediately gets the “Yo Ho, a Pirate’s Life for Me” theme song! Captain Jack Sparrow all the way!

We planned to go to the Latitudes restaurant, but we were unaware that there was a boat shuttle that we needed to take to get there. The previous one had just departed, we were hungry, so we went in search for somewhere else to eat …

Only in Florida …

Florida1

This weekend, there was a big sale on airline tickets from Brussels to Miami and Orlando at our airline (jetairfly.com) and I just had to get myself some tickets. If I can’t become a permanent resident in the USA, by god, I’ll be spending all my money traveling there! 🙂 It also made me reminisce about all the lovely things I’ll be able to do again. And it made me realize that there’s a whole lot of things that you can see or do that’s only available in Florida! Here’s my list of things you’ll only find in the Sunshine State:

Florida: my favorite beaches

So far, Florida really is my favorite state in the USA. I used to think it was this place where you go to retire, that it was full of old people … Well it’s not. This state has this zen-like flow going on. Once the plane lands in Miami, Orlando, Tampa or wherever you want to start your journey – you immediately get this urge to change into your shorts and slippers. All the stress just drops off you and you start to unwind. Is it something in the air? I don’t know. I also often wonder what it would be like to live there. Are you inhabitants of Florida in a constant state of zen? Or does this feeling go away once you have to work and live there? I sure hope not.

Anyway. Tourists go to Florida to unwind, of that I am sure. There’s sunshine (and the occasional hurricane, but hey, they travel fast, right?), freshly squeezed orange juice and a coastline where many other states and countries can only dream about. This post is to show you my selection of favorite beaches. So jump in your bikini, your swimsuit or your speedo and join me onto the white sand and into the clear seawater – because that’s what Florida has to offer!
